Very Icky Research Under Surveillance

Operation: V.I.R.U.S. is the first segment of the sixth episode of Season 5 of Codename: Kids Next Door. It first aired on January 14, 2006 on Cartoon Network.

Information[]

Summary[]

Numbuh 5 tries to save her sister Cree from a disease that KND have made in revenge for creating Chickenpox.

Plot[]

The episode begins with the Deep Sea Science Lab where Numbuh 74.239 is entering the facility with Numbuh 20,000 acting as security guard post, requesting security clearance for the door, which is spitting his hand as a means of a handshake and enters the research room where he greets the other scientists. As he was about to lecture them, a intruder alarm blares off a incoming intruder and breaches the hull. As the other scientists flee, Numbuh 74.239 contacts Numbuh 20,000 where he gives the exact coordinates of the intruder heading toward the research lab before losing contact.

The intruder breaches the research room, revealing that the intruder is a female Teen Ninja wearing an armor made for deep sea diving. The intruder demands the scientists what they have done to her. 72.239 recognizes the teenage girl and claims that, because the Teens have created the chicken pox and unleashed it on the kids, the KND has decided to create a virus something even worse for the Teens, something that is even more worse than the chicken pox and irreversible. The female teenager demands the scientist to give her the antidote, but he refuses despite her brutal interrogation. The female teenager points her laser gun at the secret containment unit that has a black poster of a skull on it. Numbuh 74.239 begs her not to destroy the chamber and told her that he came back after he gave the antidote to Numbuh 5 just before the teen got to the lab. The female Teen Ninja is familiar with Numbuh 5 because the teen is revealed to be Cree Lincoln who blasts the containment unit before escape. Numbuh 74.239 curses the teen for dooming the entire tree house before he activates the red button that lockdown the entire treehouse before all of the operatives eject out of the tree house for containment.

The next scene goes back to Sector V's Treehouse where Numbuh 1 gives a brief update from undercover operatives that the teenagers are preparing what they assumed to be called the "Pubescent Retaliation On Munchkins" or "PROM" gathering at McClintock High School for their annual meeting. Numbuh 2 demonstrates their plan through a diorama of the simulation where the KND will strike, much to everyone's annoyance since it was the same thing he did in History class. Numbuh 1 dismisses all the operatives to their assignment and the team leaves him alone in the treehouse. Right after everyone else, Cree suddenly barched into the treehouse, demanding him to know where her sister is. Of course, Numbuh 1 retaliates by quick drawing all of the weapons he's got including a comb, but Cree has the fastest quickdraw with her own weapons and blasts all of them. Cree angrily interrogates him to know where her sister is, and Numbuh 1 claims that they've hidden Numbuh 5 in the treehouse where she'll never find her. Frustrated, Cree demands Numbuh 1 to hand over her sister before she turns the treehouse upside down. Numbuh 1 calls it a bluff and dares her to do it,

Surprisingly, Cree managed to do it, and turned the entire treehouse upside down with Numbuh 1 in pain, impressed that she could do it, Once again, Cree demands to know where is her sister with so many laser guns pointing at him before she incenterate him. Numbuh 1 gives in and tells her that Numbuh 5 was supposed to be aerial reconnaissance with Numbuh 2 before Cree jets off to the sky,

In the clouds, Numbuh 2 manned the C.L.O.U.D.C.O.V.E.R. and observes the a couple of teenagers bringing in some musical equipment to the high school. Right as Numbuh 2 was about to give report, his radar picks up Cree and tries to turn on the turbos, but Cree managed to spot him and shot his vehicle down. Numbuh 2 is falling with his parachute until Cree appears before him. Because of his crush on her, Numbuh 2 flirts with Cree, much to her annoyance and shot down several strings holding the parachute, interrogating him of her sister's whereabouts. At the last shot, Numbuh 2 caves in and tells her that Numbuh 5 was supposed to be with him, but he guess that he was with Numbuh 3 and 4 before the last string snaps. Cree demands him the coordinates and Numbuh 2 gave her the coordinates before wondering if he gets a thank you kiss but she drops him anyways. Assuming that he was still in the sky, he screamed until Numbuh 2 realizes that he was already on the ground by then.

Near the high school, Numbuh 3 and 4 were watching the teenagers from inside the tree. Numbuh 4 wonders about why the teenagers would want decorations for their "prom" while Numbuh 3 wonders if the birds from the nest would come back. Right as she watched the teenagers, Cree rips the tree open with her laser gun pointing at the two of them, demanding to know where Abigail is before she runs out of time. Numbuh 4 said that they haven't seen her all day, but Cree was angry that she assumed they are lying and gets ready to blast them until her timer in her watch beeps, indicating that time is up already. Angry for not finding her sister, Cree screams and jets on back home.

Cree is demoralized and defeated, and even her parents didn't know where her sister is and breaks down into hysterical tears before the real Numbuh 5 shows up. In a fit of rage, Cree attacks her sister and the two fight while making their parents oblivious of their fighting as they were getting ready for something. In desperation, Cree keeps on attacking her sister for everything that happened to her all day, saying that her life is over now thanks to the KND because she needed that antidote. Lucky for her, Numbuh 5 said she went and got the antidote for her sister because she told the KND that testing the new strain of unpoppable zip on her prom night was going way overboard. Despite her sister being her enemy, Numbuh 5 still loves her as a sister, and starts applying the antidote to her sister's nasty and grossed out unpoppable zit.

Later that night, Cree is looking fabulous, cured of her unpoppable zit, with her date, Maurice, and believes that sometimes, her sister and her friends weren't so bad, and nothing was ever going to ruin the night. After she entered, Numbuh 1 and 2 were near the bush. Numbuh 2 was disappointed that Cree had a date and thinks that it's going to put a strain on his relationship. However, Numbuh 1, who was still angry for Cree wrecking his treehouse, calls in all the KND operatives to prepare the unpoppable zit cannons and pizza-face lasers as every entrance was stocked with KND vehicles filled with weapons designed to give the teenagers a "prom night they'll never forget" as the episode ends.

Trivia[]

  • For some unknown reason (possibly old habits), Numbuh 1 keeps a comb with him.
  • This is the first episode to have premiered in 2006.
  • This episode along with Operation: O.U.T.B.R.E.A.K. aired on the day that Ben 10 premiered on Cartoon Network.
  • Numbuh 74.239 spits in his hand to identify himself to the security system; this is based on a childish thing where to kids will spit into their own palm before they shake hands.
  • Cree had looked for Numbuh 5 and spoke the others and got mad at them in 5 different ways:
    • Cree blasted Numbuh 1’s 2x4 technology and turned the treehouse upside down.
    • Cree blasted Numbuh 2’s parachute but he was close to the ground.
    • Cree found Numbuh 3 and Numbuh 4 in a tree but only spooked them.
    • Cree found Numbuh 5 at their house where Abby had the antidote.

Series continuity[]

Cultural references[]

  • Numbuh 20,000's code name is likely a reference to the novel 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, considering his underwater place of operations.
  • One of the scientists looks like Sherman from The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends.
  • The quote that Abigail said "well, you may be my arch-enemy, but you're still my sister." is similar to a quote from Acceleracers: The Ultimate Race where Nolo Pasaro said to Kurt Wylde about a conflict with his brother Mark Wylde "He not Teku Kurt, but he's your brother". Although some shows have different conflicts between brothers and sisters.

Goofs[]

  • While the alarm goes off in the Deep Sea Science Lab, several scientists appear in more than one place at the same time.
  • Numbuh 2's explanation of the planned attack on the teens' prom is completely different to how the attack happens later.
  • After Cree attacks the Sector V treehouse, there is a lot more space between the seating area and Numbuh 1's podium in the meeting room than normal.
  • After Cree turned the treehouse upside down, the tree does not appear to have any roots beneath Numbuh 1's house.
  • When we first see the treehouse upside down, Cree and Numbuh 1 are just next to it on Numbuh 1's front lawn, but in the next scene they are on the neighbor's front lawn instead.
  • Numbuh 2 was flying right above the high school when Cree attacked him and he landed somewhere close to it. Cree then flies off far to find Numbuhs 3 and 4, but they are actually just on the other side of the school building.
  • After Cree lands in front of her house and walks towards the side door, the whole garage next to the door is gone.
  • When Cree and Maurice step out of the limo, there is a red cord-fencing in front of the entrance. This was not there earlier and disappears once they walk into the gymnasium.
