Numbuh Uncovers Glistening Golden Edible Treat

Operation: N.U.G.G.E.T. is the first story in the third episode of Season 4 of Codename: Kids Next Door. It first aired on December 3, 2004 on Cartoon Network.

Information[]

Summary[]

On a perfect Saturday morning, Numbuh 4 discovers a large deposit of 100% pure golden chicken nuggets which started the Chicken Nugget Rush that attracts thousands of kids from all over the state, both good and bad ones like the Delightful Children From Down the Lane.

Plot[]

The episode begins on a beautiful Saturday morning where Wallabee is humming and singing to himself, jumping on rocks and other things. He then gets freaked out when spotting a nearly dried up stream. Since Wallabee can't swim, he begins to back away but decides to jump it. He tries to jump over the stream and hopelessly fails. He panics for the moment while in the water, but upon discovering the stream is very shallow, he calls the stream stupid. Suddenly, Wallabee spots a chicken nugget in the stream.

Suddenly, a cowboy kid called Chicken Pete takes it and discovers the whole stream is filled with nuggets. He calls out to every other prospecting kids that Wallabee has discovered a mother lode of chicken nuggets. As of they heard, the Chicken Nugget Rush begins and all the prospecting kids everywhere start coming to the stream, with each kids settling in and started mining for one of the nuggets for themselves such as one finding a giant nugget.

Wallabee meets up with Numbuh 1 and discovers he is, not only prospecting with the other kids, but he is running the saloon. Inside, Wallabee is paid with ketchup and a chicken nugget by Numbuh 2 working as the bartender for the nuggets. He and the other kids in the saloon were given the entertainment hosted by Numbuh 5 with dance singers called The Chicken Fingers, who turn out to be Kuki, Mushi, and Lizzie. They begin singing a song with Abigail as the host. Some of the kids, and including Wallabee were swayed a tiny bit when the three girls sing, referring to his crush on Kuki, he's probably staring at her.

Suddenly, the Delightful Children From Down The Lane came into the saloon and showed everyone the deed that grants them ownership to the land and as it turns out, they own the town and all the chicken that's found. Wallabee and the other kids didn't like the hasty stealing, but with a new variety of henchmen, the Chicken Bucket Men to steal everyone's nuggets, everyone started brawling in the saloon. Kids started picking fights with the adults, destroying many of the furniture in the saloon. As the kids are all about to give the adults a piece of their victory, the Delightfuls shoot a chicken in the sky with a chicken gun to stop the madness. Now with a chicken pointing at them, many of the kids surrendered and everybody soon becomes slaves with the exception of Sector V who are put in jail, with Chicken Pete as the jailer. The kids were put into hot enduring work to mine for all of the nuggets.

In jail, Wallabee complains that he hasn't had a single nugget so Kuki gives him one. Chicken Pete offers to set them free if Wallabee gives him the nugget. Wallabee reluctantly agrees. With the KND free of jail, they started to make weapons and started liberating all of the enslaved prospecting kids. The Delightfuls come by later and discover to their horror, Sector V took over the place. Wallabee comes to battle the Delightfuls with a new ketchup and mustard gun. Wallabee manages to take out the Delightfuls and they ended running away, much to everybody's happiness. However, Chicken Pete revealed that a kid found a mother lode of onion rings in the south of the border, causing a frenzy for the prosecting kids to scramble away in a scuffle to head down south.

In the end, Wallabee wakes up in the stream, revealing he fell asleep in the river and had a dream. The episode ends with him getting up and humming about Saturday as he leaves while the nugget is shown on a rock.

Trivia[]

  • This episode is an old Western parody replacing the gold rushes with a chicken nugget rush. This is a pun on the term "nugget", parodying gold nuggets as "chicken nuggets". The duel is also a Western parody, with ketchup and mustard depicting both the weapons used for the Mexican stand-off and are handed out in tiny drinks by Numbuh 2 in a bartender-like manner similar to hard drinks.
  • The whole idea for the episode came from Mo Willems stating to Mr. Warbuton, "chicken nuggets are gold nuggets."[1]
  • Aside from Numbuh 4, the other characters only appear in his dreams.
  • During the song-and-dance number done by Lizzie, Kuki, and Mushi, several advertisements can be seen on a board at the back of the stage:
    • "Mr. Warburton's Flim Flam Elixir": Mr. (Thomas) Warburton is a writer of the cartoon, and the show's creator.
    • "Moore Family Pinebox Co.": Guy Moore is a storyboard artist and assistant director on the show.
    • "Iguana Brand Chick'n Fat": Robert Smith, nicknamed "The Iguana", is a designer on the show.
    • "Doc Todd's Wooly Breeches": L. Todd Myers is a character designer on the show.
    • "Evans' Picks and Pans": Tom Mackey Evans is also a character designer on the show.
  • The Chicken Men are meant to parallel the Ice Cream Men, the temporary henchmen of the Delightful Children from Down the Lane.
  • Alessandra from the DCFDTL replaces her bow with a cowboy hat that has pink ribbon around the base, which Constance also wears.
  • Lenny from the DCFDTL has stars on the side of his helmet, instead of the holes of a regular football helmet. This is possibly a reference to the 'Old West' sheriffs who wore silver stars.
  • Constance and Alessandra are the only ones who fire the guns worn in the gigantic belt they wear.
  • Some of the western kids use grill tools to sift for gold nuggets in the river.

Continuity[]

Cultural References[]

  • "Happy lunches" might be a reference to "Happy Meals" served at the fast food chain, McDonald's.

Goofs[]

  • When Numbuh 4 says to Chicken Pete, "Will somebody tell me what the heck is going on," a girl in the background is about to walk off screen and suddenly disappears before reaching the end.
  • After Chicken Pete first mentions his name, some of the kids in the background disappear on the spot.
  • When Numbuhs 1 and 4 walk towards the saloon, some kids appear in several places simultaneously in the background.
  • The interior of the saloon changes through the episode.
  • When the crowd is cheering for the Chicken Fingers, there are some poorly drawn kids in the background that do not move.
  • The same clip is used when the crowd is cheering before and after the Chicken Fingers show.
  • When the DCFDTL enter the saloon, there is only one boy standing by the stairs, but after they reach Numbuh 4, there are 3 kids standing there.
  • Numbuh 4's chair is noticably further away from the bar counter when the DCFDTL enter.
  • In some scenes, like when David (DCFDTL) eats the nugget, the belt around the DCFDTL is not connected in the back.
  • The first kids to be released are chained on their left leg, but then it switches to the right leg when the girl in purple falls over, and then back to the left leg when Numbuh 2 is releasing them.
  • One of the DCFDTL's chicken guns is missing when they run away covered in ketchup.
  • The saloon window is sometimes shattered and sometimes not.
