Information[]
Summary[]
Tommy embarks on a journey with a cowardly cleanliness-fearing captain in the bath waters.
Plot[]
The episode starts with Tommy Gilligan running for his life from a giant robot, wearing only his cape and hat. The robot chases him into the middle of a football game, and it is revealed that the robot is piloted by Numbuh 2, who is trying to get Tommy to take a bath. The spectators of the football game laugh at Tommy's nakedness, and he accepts defeat and goes home.
Betty Gilligan throws Tommy into the bathroom. Tommy eventually refuses, until Grandma Lydia threatens to come in and scrub him with the cheese grater. As he gets in the bathwater, he sinks into schools of fish, eventually getting picked up in a fisher's net. He is pulled onto the S.S. Stinkypants by Dr. McCoy.
Captain James P. Dirt comes onto the deck, wondering why the ship has stopped. He talks about someone only referred to as "she" on their trails, who wants them to all get clean. The Captain starts the ship again, and says that "she" cannot be defeated, only run from.
Tommy approaches the captain while asking who "she" is. The captain then asks Tommy who he is prompting him to introduce himself to him as well as his crew. After that, the crew begins laughing at Tommy and making fun of him due to his nakedness. Unamused, the captain gives Tommy a robe to cover himself up.
"She" is then revealed to be Moby Duck. Moby Duck rams into the S.S. Stinkypants, throwing some boys overboard. The rest of the ship hides, but Tommy takes over the wheel and steers the ship right into Moby Duck, narrowly missing it. They run into suds, and Moby Duck loses track of them.
The Captain congratulates Tommy on saving them and invites him to dinner with the senior officers of the ship. In reality, Tommy is forced to be the dishwasher, but since soap and water are banned on the ship, he has to scrape the dishes with his fingernails.
During the dinner, Mr. Slob says that Moby Duck is trying to force them into a dead end, the other side of the tub. The Captain gives up all hope. Tommy tells them not to run, but to fight. The crew is shocked and angry, but the Captain agrees, and the crew prepares.
The S.S. Stinkypants escapes the suds, approaching the drain, and Moby Duck attacks. The crew goes out on rowboats with plungers, stopping Moby Duck and pulling her closer to the drain.
As the Captain gives commands, Moby Duck starts to speak to the Captain. It is revealed that Moby Duck is actually Mrs. Dirt, the Captain's mother. who has been trying to get him to take a bath for thirty six years. She collapses Moby Duck onto the rowboat with the Captain on it, trapping the Captain in her beak. The crew desperately tries to free him, but Tommy's robe comes off and everyone gets distracted by his nakedness. Moby Duck and the Captain fall down the drain.
The rest of the crew is caught in the whirlpool of the drain, and all of them fall in.
Tommy reappears by his bathtub at home, being yelled at by his mother. Then he hears a quack, and jumps into the bathtub and starts taking a bath. The end frame is on a rubber duck-sized Moby Duck, giving an evil grin.

Trivia[]
- A running gag in the episode was Tommy's buttocks being exposed, which led to Captain Dirt's crew laughing at him whenever he raised his cape in front of them.
- When Numbuh 2 catches a naked Tommy in the middle of a crowded football stadium, a blimp's marquee displays the words "nice butt" and the crowd and the cheerleaders chant "TAKE A BATH! TAKE A BATH!"
- Tommy Gilligan was naked throughout the episode, even when he's in a robe.
- This episode might have been inspired by Mr. Warburton's wish for Maurice LaMarche to do his William Shatner impression.[1]
- The opening for this episode is almost exactly the same as the comic, Operation: B.A.T.H.T.I.M.E., which was published three weeks later.
- Instead of sailor hats, the crew of S.S. Stinkypants are wearing drain plugs on their heads.
- "Thar she quacks" is a duck-themed parody of the phrase, "thar she blows", used to indicate sighting of whales.
- The S.S. Stinkypants and its interior is made up from utilities and items most often found in a bathroom.
Series Continuity[]
- This is the second episode in the series where a character runs around naked, the first episode was Operation: B.U.T.T..
- Tommy is still going by his alter ego, "The Tommy", started all the way back in Operation: G.R.A.D.U.A.T.E.S. from Season 3.
- This is first and only time that the crew of the S.S. Stinkypants appears in the series.
Cultural References[]
- Many parts of the episode are references to Star Trek:
- Dr. MuckCoy is named after Dr. Leonard McCoy.
- Spotty is parodying Scotty, even with the Scottish accent.
- Captain James P. Dirt's name parodies captain James T. Kirk, with his speech pattern being an over-exaggeration of William Shatner's (the actor playing James T. Kirk).
- Mr. Slob's appearance and behavior are modeled after Mr. Spock.
- Mr. Pee-ew is a parody of Hikaru Sulu.
- Scaredycat-drive is a parody of "warp drive", a propulsion system onboard the "USS Enterprise" spaceship.
- The giant yellow duck, "Moby Duck", is a parody of the white whale, Moby Dick from the 1851 novel, Moby-Dick.
- The "Moby Duck" name is also a reference to the 1965 Looney Tunes cartoon of the same name.
- The way the giant duck quacks is very similar to Donald Duck.
Goofs[]
- There's a small error during the opening chase scene. When Tommy runs into the stadium and falls on the ground, his cape is in the air and a brief glimpse of his backside was shown, but his butt isn't visible.
- After the reveal of the football stadium, every cheerleader behind Tommy has a frozen character model, but also a moving character model overlapping the frozen one; this makes it look like the cheerleaders have four arms and double shoes.
- Both teams on the football field wear the exact same uniform.
- After Tommy has been pulled up onto the S.S. Stinkypants, there are no contraptions onboard that perform the net fishing from earlier.
- After throwing the plungers at the duck, the ropes are somehow suddenly fastened to the S.S. Stinkypants.
- After the duck bites Captain Dirt, the ropes attached to the duck's head are no longer attached to the ship.
- The little foot stool switches back and forth between being beside the bathtub and in front of the sink.
