Information[]

Summary[]

Numbuh 4 forces the other operatives to build a "clam cannon" when Numbuh 1 leaves.

Plot[]

One day at the Sector V Treehouse, Nigel had to go on a top-secret solo mission to infiltrate massive adult torture facilities filled with monstrous mechanical devices at an amusement park called "Hap-Happy Land" where adults are making kids throw up uncontrollably, leaving the others behind. Numbuh 2 and 4 were disgusted and Numbuh 3 and 5 were amazed. But before Numbuh 1 could say more, his mother called out to him for the trip and Numbuh 2, 3, 4, and 5 felt puzzled. With nothing else to do and with no adults or villains to fight or battle, they decided to do a little relaxing.

After he leaves, the others are confronted by some villains such as Count Spankulot, who gave Numbuh 5, 2, 3, and 4 a good spanking, for not paying their library fines. Numbuh 4 saw that Numbuh 1 forgot to turn on the Spanker-Spotter Defense Grid. Then The Proper Patrol (Major Manners and Sergeant Sensible) arrived bursting through the treehouse roof and shot the Kids Next Door and made Numbuh 2, 5, 4, and 3 wear “proper” clothing. Hoagie, Kuki, Wally, and Abby may have looked beautiful and handsome in their “proper” clothes but they were so embarrassed so they raced to their rooms, put on their actual clothes, and came back right away. Numbuh 4 saw that the Super Power Anti-Adult Air Attack Missiles were missing and saw that Numbuh 3 was having a tea party with them. Although they ward them off, Wallabee gets angry at their apparent lack of preparation without Nigel around. Just then, The Delightful Children from Down the Lane then show up, but had to leave right away due to a curfew. Numbuh 4 is fed up with all the villains showing up right after Numbuh 1 left as they were unprepared for all the attacks. He woke up Numbuh 2, who was sleeping and tackled him. Wally states that if Nigel was here too, they would be optimizing their defenses. Abigail jokingly suggests they should build a "Clam Cannon", but Wallabee actually picks up the idea. As he settles into the role of temporary leader, the others gradually grow weary of his temporary leadership, as they force him out of their rooms after trying to get them to work when all they want is to sleep. But meanwhile at Hap-Happy Land, Numbuh 1 was having a terrible time because the lion-mascot was poking Numbuh 1 and chatting, “Who’s a happy boy?,” nonstop.

Back at the treehouse, later that night, while the others were sleeping, Wally quietly snuck into their rooms to try to convince them to build the clam cannon. Numbuh 4 wakes up Numbuh 3, who got mad and pounded him and threw her toys at him. Numbuh 4 went to Numbuh 2, who was reading a comic book and shoved Numbuh 4 and the ladder down. Numbuh 4 told Hoagie that he will be jealous when Abby gets all the credit for helping Wally. So he snuck to Numbuh 5’s room in the bathroom where Numbuh 5 attacked Numbuh 4 and put a plunger on him and kicked him out.

When they wake up groggy one morning, they find that their breakfast has been replaced with nothing but clams and building supplies. Wallabee ignores their complaints, would not let them settle in, and demands the others make the cannon before the DCFDTL or any other villains or adults show up again.

Numbuh 2 knew that it was Numbuh 5’s fault and wished that she had suggested clam chowder and Numbuh 4 went crazy, rough, hard, bossy, and pushy on them. As they are building, they are noticeably tired physically and mentally, but Wallabee - now taking his role a little too seriously and a little too far - continues pushing his team, waking up Kuki after finding her asleep in a bucket of clams and chastising Hoagie and Abigail for falling asleep on the job.

It gets to the point where he puts them into "Double Time" where breaks are forbidden and they work through the night without stopping or sleeping. Numbuh 4 wanted to see the Delightful Children or any other villain or adult try to “take their cake” and wore Numbuh 1’s shades. The following morning, Numbuh 4 has all but assumed not only the role but the appearance of Numbuh 1, wearing Nigel's shades, outfit, and a bald cap, and declares himself, "Permanent team leader...forEVAH!" Meanwhile, poor Hoagie, Kuki, and Abigail continued working on the cannon. They are beyond exhausted physically and mentally, having not slept for over two days (it got to the point where Kuki and Abigail began banging hammers on each other's heads and Hoagie fell asleep drooling while sawing nothing but air), and the cannon ends up in poor quality. The DCFDTL show up again, and easily take them under their robot's claw. The Delightful Children were very puzzled and surprised about the clam cannon. While preparing to use the cannon against them, Wallabee - perhaps delusionally now - insists they have them "on the ropes" while his cries fall on deaf ears, as the other are too tired to respond.

The cannon explodes, sending the DCFDTL flying into the sky into the distance. With the team in tatters, Numbuh 1 finally returns to the treehouse, and takes notice of the clam cannon idea and embracing it. Hoagie, Kuki, and Abigail emerge from the rubble, miraculously well-rested, and express excitement to see him, and after a motivating speech from Numbuh 1, resume working on the cannon, but Wallabee says, "Work, work, work. Can't a guy get any rest around here?!" leaving Nigel to ask Abigail, "What's his problem?" to which she shrugs.

Quotes[]

DCFDTL: So, Kids Next Door, what do you say to a trip to Pluto? Have a delightful flight.

[The cannon explodes, sending the DCFDTL flying far away]

Numbuh 1: Hello? I'm back. Wha? Wow! A clam cannon! Yeah! Home, sweet home. Great job, team. A clam cannon is exactly the type of defensive mechanism we need.

Numbuh 2: Numbuh 1!

Numbuh 3: Yay!

Numbuh 5: It's about time.

Numbuh 1: But this cannon will never fire right. The design is all wrong. We can make some modifications and if we work through the night, we can have it done by morning.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first episode where recurring villains, Count Spankulot, as well as the Proper Patrol, appear.
  • This is the first episode where Abigail and Kuki's eyes are shown instead of just pupils.
  • This episode reveals that Numbuh One's real first name is Nigel.
  • Numbuh 1's mother is also heard for the first time.
  • Numbuh 4 may have been hard, bossy, and pushy on Numbuh 2, 3, and 5 and would not let them settle in but the bright side is that Numbuh 1 agreed with Numbuh 4’s clam cannon idea.
  • This is the first episode we see Numbuh 4 have a costume change.
  • This is the only mention of the "Spanky Spotter Grid"; a part of the Super D.E.F.E.N.S.E.-G.R.I.D..
  • This episode was included on the Sooper Hugest Missions: File Two DVD.
  • The episode, along with Operation I.-S.C.R.E.A.M., were released on the official Cartoon Network YouTube channel on October 24th, 2022.

Production Notes[]

  • This episode and Operation: C.A.N.N.O.N. were initially produced as segments for the third episode, but ended up being packaged as the second episode, swapping places with Operation: N.O.-P.O.W.U.H. and Operation: T.E.E.T.H..
  • Monty Uno was originally going to have a vocal role, like his wife, but it was cut for unknown reasons.
  • Early designs of "Mr. and Mrs. Missile" show that they were originally going to be three missiles, with the third dressed as a young boy.[2]
  • Early sketches of the Proper Patrol also included a third member, "Private Proper".[2]
  • Mr. Warburton stated on his blog that the episode was originally called "Operation: B.I.G.-E.L.B.O.W.", and was based on how he and his brothers would drop elbows on whoever happened to be sleeping late. In the episode proper, Numbuh 4 wakes up any sleeping member of Sector V with an elbow drop.[3]

Series Continuity[]

Errors[]

  • Numbuh 5 is seen holding a small tuba when the Proper Patrol left the treehouse, but was not holding it after the proper ray hit her.
  • Once the smoke cleared after the cannon exploded, Numbuhs 2-5 are not visible on the deck, even though they are there only seconds later after Numbuh 1 arrives.
  • Numbuh 4 is not wearing his bald cap when he was lying on the deck once Numbuh 1 arrived, but he is then wearing it after Numbuh 1 suggested building a new clam cannon.
