"Operation: B.R.I.E.F." is the 2nd story in the 9th episode of Season 2 of Codename: Kids Next Door. It first aired on December 5, 2003 on Cartoon Network.

Information[]

Summary[]

The Delightful Children From Down the Lane send an underwear assassin after Numbuh 1, but the rest of Sector V thinks Numbuh 1 has lost his mind after too many missions.

Plot[]

The entire Sector V has come from 9 entire missions without a break. Although the rest of the team is exhausted, Numbuh 1 seems to be enjoying this and asks the team for one more. Sector V sees Numbuh 1 trip and the operatives say that he's tired too. Numbuh 1 denies this and says he just tripped over a package for him. He expects something of a reward, but the package turns out to be a pair of underwear. The operatives make fun of this and Numbuh 3 keeps looking at his butt, as a continued gag through the episode.

Later, Numbuh 1 is attacked by his underwear revealing to be a assassin named Mr. White. The underwear and Numbuh 1 battle and the rest of the team thinks Numbuh 1 has gone crazy. Later, Numbuh 65.3 contacts the rest of the sector but wants their leader present. They explain their leader is acting crazy and he wants proof. Surely enough, Numbuh 1 crashes through the floor with his rocket shoes, screaming before going through the ceiling. Convinced and shocked, Numbuh 65.3 tells them of the Delightful Children sending an assassin after Numbuh 1 and shows them his description. The team find out that Numbuh 1 really was attacked by the underwear assassin and has not gone crazy before rushing to help. Numbuh 1 falls down a treehouse window from his room, Mr. White comes in and discovers how neat Numbuh 1 folds and treats his underwear. He goes to save Numbuh 1 but the Sector V kids come in and threaten the underwear with lasers, unaware of the other danger their leader was in. After convincing Numbuh 3 lets Mr. White go and Mr. White saves Numbuh 1 from falling. Numbuh 1 is able to survive with no injuries, but Mr. White is now out of elastic. Numbuh 3 nurses Mr. White back to health and he decides to retire from his lifestyle. As an act of peace between himself and Numbuh 1, he develops a plan of revenge on the DCFDTL. And Mr. White teamed up with him.

In the end, the DCFDTL discover a pair of socks, sent by Mr. White.

Trivia[]

  • It is revealed that the Kids Next Door (besides Numbuh 1) dump all their used underwear in a huge laundry attic.
  • It is also revealed that Numbuh 5 is next in command after Numbuh 1. Probably because she used to be the leader of their sector.
  • Numbuh 1 folds his underwear.
  • Numbuh 4 mentions that he is Numbuh 1's best friend in this episode.
  • Ben Diskin is not credited as a voice for the DCFDTL in this episode.
  • When the others hear Numbuh 1 yelling in the bathroom without knowing he is fighting Mr. White, Numbuh 4 says "Sounds like numbuh 2", and Numbuh 2 then says "But I am right here guys". "Going number 2" is a U.S. term which means going to the bathroom to poo, while "going number 1" refers to peeing.
  • Numbuh 1 mentions his grandmother for the second time.
  • The "Kids Next Door Operations Manual" is mentioned for the first time.

  • Mr. White's accent is a New York Italian accent, typically used by New York gangsters in media such as Goodfellas and The Sopranos.
  • Mr. White burrowing towards Numbuh 1 in the laundry attic appears to be a parody of the famous scene from Jaws.
  • Mr. White's facial features were inspired by the Dick Tracy comic book.[1]

Errors/Goofs[]

  • At a point when the DCFDTL are talking to Mr. White, David (the tall brunette boy) smiles after the other Delightful Children.
  • After Numbuh 1 trips over the package, Numbuh 3 and 4 are suddenly standing on the other side of him, even though he walked past them in the previous shot.
  • When Numbuh 1 lies in bed and asks who Mr. White is, he is in Mr. White's shadow. When the shot turns to Mr. White, his shadow is only projected underneath him and not forwards so that it would cover Numbuh 1.
  • The location of Numbuh 1's pillow and blanket change between when the lights are off, and when they're on.
  • Numbuh 3 is not holding her plushie when she, Numbuh 4 and Numbuh 5 run into Numbuh 1's room; but she is suddenly holding it when they approach Numbuh 1's bathroom.
  • The stick figure on Numbuh 1's bathroom door is missing in the shot when he kicks through the door. Numbuh 3's plushie is also missing in this shot.
  • As Numbuh 65.3 first starts reading the red alert note, Numbuh 2 is not visible next to the Numbuh 1 dummy, despite standing next to it in a previous shot.
  • The plug to the hair dryer is a lot bigger than the electric socket in the wall.
  • The lighting in Numbuh 1's room is inconsistent through the episode.
  • Numbuh 1's J.E.T.A.B.O.O.T.S. has a button on the side when Numbuh 1 is hanging from the treehouse, which the boots did not have previously in the episode.
  • Numbuh 3 is standing behind Numbuh 4 when they are pointing their guns at Mr. White, but somehow is standing in front of him in the next shot to save the assassin.
  • Even though Mr. White was stretched sideways, he appears to have been stretched vertically later instead.
