It first aired on July 20, 2001[1] as part of "Cartoon Cartoon Fridays' Big Pick" during "A Very Merry Cartoon Cartoon Fridays Holiday Special (In July)" and won a viewer poll to be made into a full series in Cartoon Cartoon Fridays Big Pick Weekend on August 26.
Summary
When the villainous Mr. Wink and Mr. Fibb extend the adult swim time in the neighborhood pool the Kids Next Door are sent a red alert to stop them. Numbuh One suggests employing the Kid-A-Pault, a Kid's Next Door weapon to put an end to this tyranny...But their plan fails, leaving them to find other means of battling Mr. Wink and Mr. Fibb.
Plot
The pilot starts with the KND Satellite intercepting a phone call that a girl made to Julie about adult swim not being over. The operatives of Sector V are then called by Numbuh 1 to the meeting room of the treehouse. One by one they arrive in the meeting room. Numbuh 1 explains that adults have extended their swimming hours at the local pool so that kids have no time at all, and that they are going to put a stop to this. Numbuh 1 knew how boring adults can be in a pool, Numbuh 2 said that adults don’t splash around or do cannonballs, Numbuh 3 said that adults don’t scream real loud, and Numbuh 4 said that adults don’t dunk each other underwater. Numbuh 1 had a plan but Numbuh 5’s plan was to just go jump in the pool and no one would be there to stop them. The others agreed except Numbuh 1. Sector V arrived in their D.R.O.P.P.U.H.P.O.D. and ran to the pool as fast their KND legs could carry them.
Upon arriving at the pool and realizing that they have no specific plan of action, the KND decide to simply jump into the pool. The lifeguards, Mr. Wink and Mr. Fibb, see them, would not allow Sector V to jump in, and Mr. Wink said that pools are not for children except for Mr. Wink and Mr. Fibb and all adults, and they activated an electric fence which rises around the pool, shocking them.
They tell the children that it is currently adult swim even though Mr. Wink and Mr. Fibb apologized in a sarcastic kind of way, but they are welcome to play in the "kiddie pool", which turns out to be an extremely small inflatable pool. Numbuh 2, 3, 4, and 5 were excited to use the kiddie pool so they ran to it. But Numbuh 1 was puzzled about it as Mr. Wink and Mr. Fibb gave Numbuh 1 a big, deadly stare as poor Numbuh 1 nervously ran off. At the kiddie pool, it was a tight squeeze for Numbuh 2, 4, and 5 and Numbuh 3 was playing Marco, Polo by herself and littler children were in it too. The rest of Sector V don't seem to mind this much, while Numbuh 1 refuses to put up with it and yells out, for the first time ever, "Kids Next Door, Battle Stations!"
The five members then spring into action, summoning the Kid-a-Pult, and launched Numbuh 2 over the fence, hitting the lifeguard chair and knocking Mr. Wink and Mr. Fibb into the pool. Mr. Wink and Mr. Fibb felt very embarrassed and very wet and they said, “An inconvenient situation, Mr. Fibb,” “Most annoying, Mr. Wink,”.
The kids are then free to play in the pool, as the kids and Numbuh 2 were in the pool, and Numbuh 1, 3, 4, and 5 ran to the pool, until the water bubbled and Mr. Wink and Fibb arise in their lifeguard chair, which turns into a robotic, laser-firing walker. As the super chair looms over the Kids Next Door, Numbuh 1 suggests they go back to the Kid-a-Pult...
...Which is then immediately destroyed by the super chair. Mr. Wink and Mr. Fibb fired a big laser sending the children running. Mr. Wink and Mr. Fibb were so mad and fed up, they said, “If at first you don’t succeed at keeping filthy children out of the pool, Mr. Fibb,” “Try, try, again, Mr. Wink,”. Sector V hid behind some little trees. Numbuh 1 was about to come up with a plan on what Numbuh 3 can do, he then notices that Numbuh 3 is missing, and the team tells him that she went to get snacks from the Snack Bar. Mr. Wink and Mr. Fibb caught the KND red-handed and told them that Sector V would not be swimming today or ever. Mr. Wink and Mr. Fibb unleashed the biggest laser preparing to destroy Sector V once and for all, when Numbuh 3 makes a well timed return with snacks, causing Mr. Wink and Mr. Fibb to deactivate their laser. Numbuh 3 started giving snacks to everyone, including the villains, who leave their chair to eat ice cream. The two villains were very happy that a KND operative was nice enough to give them ice cream even though they were the bad guys.
Numbuh 1, infuriated, starts yelling at Numbuh 3 for giving treats to the bad guys (and gets offended to know that she left him out) when he notices that the super chair has been abandoned. He hijacks the chair and tries to get rid of Mr. Wink and Mr. Fibb, but not knowing how to work the robot chair and accidentally activates a big drill that drills a big hole in the pool and drains it. This leaves everyone, kids and adults alike, and even Mr. Wink and Mr. Fibb out of a pool to play in, and collectively displeased with Number 1 for causing it. Numbuh 1 then nervously asks the angry crowd, "So, who's going to the kiddie pool?", ending the pilot.

Quotes
Numbuh 1: It seems that our enemies, the grown-ups, have extended their Adult Swim so that kids have absolutely no swim time of their own. And we all know how boring a bunch of grown-ups are in a pool.
Numbuh 2: Yeah, Numbuh 1, they never splash around or do cannonballs!
Numbuh 3: And they never scream real LOUD!!!
Numbuh 4: [dunks Numbuh 3] Or dunk each other under the water!
Numbuh 1: Precisely. So, if we're going to put a stop to this Adult Swim thing, we're going to need a plan. And I have just--
Numbuh 5: [whistles] Numbuh 5 has a plan, why don't we just go jump in the pool? Who's gonna stop us?
Numbuh 4: Let's do it!
(Sector V cheer, except Numbuh 1)
Numbuh 1: Hey, guys, wait for me.
(at K.N.D. Cool Bus)
Numbuh 2: Good afternoon, passengers, this is your captain, Numbuh 2, speaking, it is at this time, we would like to request, that you hang onto your underwear! (laughs and cheers)
Trivia
- This pilot episode is still on the Boomerang streaming app.
- For most of the episode, the kids are in swimsuits rather than their usual clothes.
- The art style is noticeably more simplistic than the rest of the series. The outlines are unusually thick.
- The characters' necks are also abnormally long in this episode, resembling the designs of characters from Pepper Ann, a show that Mr. Warburton worked on as a character designer.
- The KND logo shown during scene transitions is blue rather than yellow. This also applies to Operation: C.A.K.E.D..
- This is the one of the only two episodes whose name is not an acronym, the other being The Grim Adventures of the KND (not counting Diseasy Does It, which was part of a planned series). If it was an acronym it would be called "Operation: O.O.L."
- The character's voices had not been fully developed when this episode was created, as Numbuh 3's Asian accent is more noticeable than in the rest of the series, as is Numbuh 4's Australian accent. Numbuh 1's voice actor Ben Diskin was 17 or 18 years old when he recorded this episode.
- Numbuh 2 is the only one to be shot out of the Kidapult. They likely shot him because he is the fattest and biggest member of Sector V and would give the enemy the hardest hit.
- The phrase "Adult Swim" would later be used by Cartoon Network for their adult-programming sister channel Adult Swim, launched two months after the pilot was released on September 2, 2001.
- This is the only episode when a KND Satellite intercepts a phone call.
- This episode was made in 2000, making it the only KND episode to be made in the 20th century, as well as one of the very last Cartoon Network episodes to be produced in the 20th century, as 2000 is the last year of the 20th century.
Production Notes
- The original title for the episode during storyboarding was The Kids Next Door: "Ool (Notice There's No P in It)"[2]
Series Continuity
- Mr. Wink and Mr. Fibb are the first adult villains ever to appear on the show, their second episode being Operation: C.O.W.G.I.R.L..
- Numbuh 4 is shown swimming, while in later episodes it is established that he cannot swim.
- Numbuh 5 is seen with reading glasses. She doesn't wear these in future episodes.
- Numbuh 3's love of popcorn appears in this episode (it was the snack she got for herself at the snack bar).
Goofs
- On Numbuh 1's podium in the beginning of the episode, "KND" is painted on it in white paint. However, in the rest of the series, his podium has the number 1 on it instead.
- Numbuh 1's sunglasses do not have their usual shine to them in the beginning of this episode.
- When Numbuh 2 sent everyone in their pods from the C.O.O.L.B.U.S. you can clearly see Numbuh 5's image in Numbuh 4's pod, while in Numbuh 5's pod, Numbuh 5 is there herself.
- Numbuh 4 said, "Let's do it!" in Numbuh 2's voice.
- When Sector V land after leaving the pods, Numbuh 5's body disappears resulting in her head and limbs appearing to be part of her ponytail.
- Before Numbuh 1 accidentally drains the pool, Numbuhs 2-5 are seen in their swimsuits. When he does so, 2-5 are seen in their normal clothes, then shift back to their swimsuits.
- After Numbuh 3 gets the snacks and Mr. Wink and Mr. Fibb lower their lifeguard chair robot, the umbrella laser shooter on top of it is gone.
