The leader of the monks claims that one more being is greater then him, and Dodgeball Wizard decides to find him to prove that adults are the best at dodgeball. Meanwhile, Numbuh 4 is boasting that he beat an entire team at dodgeball, although Numbuh 2 isn't impressed as Numbuh 4 really only beat a bunch of kindergartners. The two discover that Numbuh 4's entire family has been captured by the Dodgeball Wizard with a note saying that he has to meet the wizard at dodgeball tower. The two meet the Dodgeball Wizard at the tower, and while the entire family doesn't have the slightest clue that they're kidnapped. Numbuh 4 attempts to beat the Wizard, but the Wizard defeats Numbuh 4 with ease, and triumphs over his victory only to discover that the true dodgeball child is none other than Numbuh 4's baby brother, Joey. Joey engages the wizard in an epic dodgeball battle across the city, and in the end, triumphs over him. Numbuh 4, regaining his sight, discovers the wizard with a broken nose, groaning in agony. Numbuh 4 triumphs and gets hit by Joey. Numbuh 2, watching the entire battle, asks if anyone has a chili dog.

Trivia[]

  • Mrs. Beetles' face is shown for the first time in this episode. She is also wearing boomerang-styled ear rings, because the boomerang originates from Australia, like the Beetles family.
  • Originally, Numbuh 4 was going to be the one who was destined to defeat the Dodgeball Wizard, but ultimately one of the writers suggested to change it to his little brother Joey.[1]
  • The Temple Master refers to the temple as "PS 182". This is likely a reference to New York elementary school, "P.S. 182" (public school 182), which is located on Stickball Boulevard, Bronx. "Stickball" is a baseball-like street game. This is another example of real world locations being changed within the Codename: Kids Next Door universe (other include the Egyptian pyramids, Great Wall of China).
  • It is unknown how Joey survived the giant Dodgeball.
  • Joey not only exhibited a mastery of dodgeball, but also an ability to fly when he is first attacked by the Dodgeball Wizard.
  • The model of the Solar system outside of the Planetarium does not include Pluto, which was still a planet at the time of airing and was not reclassified as a dwarf planet until 2006.

Series continuity[]

Cultural references[]

  • The opening sequence is a parody of the Chinese film, Hero (2002 version).
    • A part of the opening sequence even briefly parodied a scene in The Matrix where Neo telekinetically stops bullets in mid-air.
  • The dodgeball monks and their temple are parodies of Buddhist monasteries.
  • The Dodgeball Wizard is a parody of the song "Pinball Wizard" by The Who.
    • Creator Tom Warburton originally planned for Pete Townshend, lead singer of The Who, to be involved with the episode by either re-working Pinball Wizard to Dodgeball Wizard, make an original song or have a guest voice spot, but his rep turned it down since Pete was unavailable and refused to voice act nor let his work be altered.[2]
  • Numbuh 4's line, "get out of dodge... ball... place?", is a parody of the line "get out of Dodge."
  • The planetarium visited by Joey is likely the "Hayden Planetarium" in New York.

Goofs[]

  • The temple guard at the front was knocked out lying in the middle of the two doors, but is then seen lying to the side of the doors when the Wizard opens them.
  • After the army has thrown at the Wizard, the doors are much larger than earlier.
  • When the Wizard walks to the Commander of the Dodgeball Army, the army is nowhere to be seen. They are also missing when the Wizard flies to go find Beetles.
  • Numbuh 4's pool is not visible in his backyard this episode.
  • The door frame leading into the living room is fully intact when Numbuh 2 and 4 enter the house, but it has two holes from dodgeballs when they enter the living room. The wall next to the door is also intact when they first enter, but has several holes through when they get to the living room.
  • When Joey lands on the ledge on a building with people inside, there is only one visible door in the background and it's purple. When the dodgeballs are closing in, there are now two gray doors instead.
  • We see the top of the Empire State Building unchanged from its real appearance, but in the next season the Kids Next Door Super Convention Center is located at the top.
